Is It Best to Budget Your Pool During Winter?

If you’ve decided it’s time to install a swimming pool or need to have some work done—resurfacing maybe—on your existing pool, is it wise to budget it during the winter months? For many homeowners, the answer to that question is a sound yes.

Here’s why.

Prices generally lower

Scheduling an installation or maintenance, such as resurfacing, is likely to cost less overall when the job is done during the winter. The cost of goods tends to decrease around the first of the year due to lower supply costs which are passed on to the consumer.

Landscaping suffers less

There’s no way to get around some yard damage when the heavy equipment rolls in to begin excavating your new pool. Your landscaping might escape with little or no damage if you’re completing some much-needed updating or maintenance though.

Either way, by scheduling the job during the winter months, you’ll have time to repair any damaged areas in your lawn before spring rolls around. Some construction companies may figure the damage done to landscaping, such as reseeding the grass, for instance, into their initial pitch. By the way, we would consider that a sign that they were conscientious and focused on customer satisfaction.

Whether the contractor handles damage control in the yard, or you take care of it after the pool job is complete, you should have plenty of time to get the area greened up and set right. After all the work—not to mention the part about keeping your budget under the final cost—you want to be ready to kick off pool party season looking good and on time!

Waiting has perks too though

Sometimes, you see well-known pool installation companies running specials during spring and summer rather than through the winter. If considering taking advantage of something like that, early spring is a good time to start searching for these deals.

Another reason homeowners schedule their pool installation during the heat of the summer is that they want to be able to jump into the water immediately upon project completion. The winter months are pretty warm here, but still swimming then doesn’t provide optimum conditions for most of us. The months-long wait to be able to use the new or upgraded pool can be torture for some families… especially those with young children… so waiting later in the year is the best option.

Are we right?

No real rhyme or reason to the season

Whenever you decide is the right time to schedule the construction work, it’s also a great time to enclose your pool area. No matter what time of year it is, your family can begin enjoying the benefits a mesh screen enclosure provides immediately.

Privacy

The number one reason that homeowners give when asked why they want to enclose their outdoor space is privacy. In fact, some of them admit that had they known what a difference the added sense of privacy makes, they would have enclosed the space much sooner!

You might want to take things a step further by working with a company that customizes their screens—like ours for instance. We use digital imagery coupled with dyes treated with added ultraviolet (UV) protection. You may choose a beach scene or your favorite tropical garden shots, perhaps. There is no doubt on our part that customizing your screens will allow you to create the perfect outdoor getaway.

Blocks bugs

We know everyone looks up to you because you rock, but imagine how high that hero status will shoot if you make it so they never have to deal with a bug invasion again? Ever! Night swims are going to get a whole lot more popular!

The mesh screens are finely woven which allows you to enjoy the benefits of free airflow, but bugs—noseeums included—aren’t getting through. Being out at night without fear of being eaten alive by mosquitoes is something your family will love getting used to!

No more unwanted guests

Enclosing your family’s outdoor area is going to keep you from being surprised by any unwanted visitors that stoll—or slither—near your home. If you’ve ever been startled by a snake under a cushion or found something in the pool that hadn’t been able to get out again, you understand what a plus that is going to be.

Provides some UV protection

Screen enclosures don’t block 100% of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays, but they do provide some degree of protection. And, around here, every little bit helps!

Safety features too

A screen enclosure provides a safe place for young children to get some sunshine and fresh air. They can play freely and you can sit and take a little time to finish up that novel or scroll social media for a bit. You might be amazed at how refreshed you feel when heading back indoors.

You’re able to block access to the area by simply flipping the lock on the door.

The year of the pool

Will 2024 be “the year of the pool” for you and your family? Scheduling now or soon after the new year begins is a good idea. You might be able to take advantage of the fact that goods are usually cheaper during this time of year. On the other hand, though, having to look at that big, beautiful swimming pool knowing you won’t be getting in any time soon might not be the best option for everyone.

Waiting until early spring will likely allow for a price reduction as well. Some well-known companies offer installation and maintenance specials. You’ll want to pay attention to advertisements or, perhaps make a note on your calendar to start cruising well-known installers’ websites.

Happy New Year!
